Contour Cut Fun

These puzzles use contour cutting to create some unexpected and interesting shapes. The cuts often make it a bit mysterious as to how the puzzle turns.

Lucky Clover Cube

Lucky Clover Cube

Lucky Clove Cube is a corner-turning cube, very similar to Oskar van Deventer's Redi Cube puzzle. However, the highly contoured cuts on this puzzle form the shape of a four-leaf clover on each face. The puzzle has a total of eight axes, one at every corner of the cube.

Purchase Lucky Clover Cube in my Shapeways shop.

X-Box Cube

X-Box Cube

The X-Box Cube is a corner turning puzzle with 8 axes of rotation. Solving-wise, the puzzle is the same as my previous Circle X Cube. The new style of contour cuts give this puzzle its' distinctive X-in-a-box pattern on the faces.

Six Spot Cube

Six Spot Cube

Six Spot Cube is a contour-cut variant of Eitan Cher's Ivy Cube. With Six Spot Cube the cutting pattern reveals a circle on each face. The puzzle scrambles and solves in exactly the same way as the Ivy Cube, but the contoured slices add a bit of mystery.

Six Spot Cube is mass produced by QiYi. Purchase it at Speed Cube Shop and other web puzzle stores. See the  original 3D printed version in my i.materialise shop.

Valentine Cube

Valentine Cube

Valentine Cube is a contour cut variation on the classic magic cube puzzle. The highly contoured cuts reveal the shape of four hearts on each side of the cube. However, the centers of the cube are not visible, making Valentine Cube a bit trickier to solve than a normal cube.

Valentine Gear Cube is mass produced by Lanlan. Purchase it at Cubezz and other web puzzle stores. See the  original 3D printed version in my i.materialise shop.

Octadot

Octadot Puzzle

The cuts on the Octadot are deeply curved, and meet at a center point on each face. In addition, because the parts would get too thin at the centers where they meet, there is an added center piece, making the puzzle more challenging. Octadot is essentially a shape-modified cube.

Circle X Cube

Circle X Cube

Circle X Cube is a corner-turning cube, very similar to my Lucky Clover Cube, and Oskar van Deventer's Redi Cube. With the Circle X Cube, the contoured cuts form a circle with an "X" on each face. The puzzle has a total of eight axes, one at every corner of the cube.

Crazy Daisy

Crazy Daisy

Crazy Daisy is a hybrid corner and face turning puzzle with a total of 14 axes. The corner turns are similar to my Circle X Cube, and the face turns are the same as a standard 2x2x2 cube.  The highly contoured cuts on the corner turns also creates the playful daisy pattern on the faces.

Circle X 2x2x2

Circle X 2x2x2

The Circle X 2x2x2 is a hybrid corner and face turning puzzle. It turns on a total of 14 axes. The corner turns are similar to my Circle X Cube, while the face turns are the same as a standard 2x2x2 cube. Combining these two types of moves makes for a more interesting and challenging puzzle than either of those two alone.

Super Six Spot

Super Six Spot

Super Six Spot is a DIY sticker variant of the mass produced Six Spot Cube. The stickers give the cube a fun new challenge, as the center spots need to be oriented correctly. To make this variant, purchase the stickerless version of the Six Spot Cube, then order stickers using the link below. Two different sticker styles are available.
